Ramsgate’s current station was opened in 1926 on July 2nd by the recently formed Southern Railway in order to replace two older stations: The South Eastern Railway’s ‘Ramsgate Town Station’ ) at the top of Chatham Street), and the London Chatham & Dover Railway’s ‘Ramsgate Harbour Station’. A new one mile line was constructed linking the both railways, creating through running around the Isle of Thanet. At the same time the new station at Dumpton Park opened.
The centenary of the opening of the new line, and the grade 2 listed station building, is being celebrated in July 2026 inside the main ticket hall, included will be a small art exhibition hosted by Southeastern and your’s-truly.
