A.I. art is seemingly everywhere, it has become particularly common on social media and is part of the general dumbing-down we see in society. It is insulting to artists and those who participate in the art world. A.I. art is now used to fool the uneducated and to make easy money. I do understand how someone can enjoy A.I. art, but it completely ruins art and what it should be all about and it’s no where near as gratifying or fulfilling as the real thing.

A.I. generated art has been around for years. Photoshop’s ‘Filter Gallery’ has been with us since the early ’90s. But tools released recently such as DALL-E2, MidJourney and Stable Diffusion, have made it possible for complete beginners to create complex, abstract or even photorealistic art simply by typing a few words into a text box.
A.I. presents many new threats to artists and we need to ask if the unique character of a generative A.I. image is a step too far. Recently at a arts fair in the USA, despite much controversy and anger, an A.I. piece won first prize in the digital artwork category.
And it’s not just art, the same is happening in music and television. How many of us realise that many of the voices narrating video programs are in fact A.I. generated?
A.I. should play no part in creative art. Keep it real, visit an art exhibition, touch the paint – or we could be watching the death of creativity unfold right before our eyes.
