Description

A South Eastern & Chatham Railway D-class locomotive, number 75, with a London Victoria to Ramsgate Harbour station evening train in the summer of 1911.
The Wainwright D-class steam locomotive first entered service in 1901, by 1907 51 were in traffic. Of these 21 were Ashford built with the rest supplied by outside locomotive works. The D class was a Harry Wainwright design and he was responsible for the overall look of the engine.
Additional detailed works were undertaken by chief draughtsman at Ashford works Robert Surtees.
In 1956 number 75 became the last Wainwright D class to be withdrawn from service.
