Description
An ex London Brighton & South Coast Railway B4X 4-4-0 passes under the bridge carrying the North Downs Way on the Quarry Line near Redhill, Surrey with a London Victoria to Brighton express train in 1925.
Originally the B4 class 4-4-0 steam locomotives were built for express passenger work on the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. They were designed by R J Billinton and constructed at Brighton works between 1899 and 1902. Number 70 was rebuilt to a B4X in 1922 by L B Billinton with a larger boiler, cylinders and superheater.
