The Stockton & Darlington Railway opened on September 27th, 1825, connecting places, people, communities, transportation ideas and ultimately transforming transport throughout the globe.

Railway 200 is a year long nationwide campaign to celebrating 200 years of railways in Britain and will inspire a new generation of young pioneering railway talent to choose a career in rail. The Guild of Railway Artists will be putting on a special exhibition at the Severn Valley Railway museum in Kidderminster which runs from August until September.

Starting in 2025, a wide variety of activities and events are planned to celebrate the railway’s remarkable past, its role today and importance to a sustainable future.

Born in Britain, rail quickly spread across the world and Railway 200 will showcase how the railway shaped and continues to shape national life.
