Description
A South Eastern & Chatham Railway D-class locomotive with a London Victoria to Ramsgate Harbour station evening express in the summer of 1911.
The Wainwright D-class steam locomotive first entered service in 1901, by 1907 51 were in traffic. Of these 21 were Ashford built with the rest supplied by outside contractors. The D class was a Harry Wainwright design and he was responsible for the overall look of the engine.
The detail was undertaken by Robert Surtees, the chief draughtsman at Ashford works.
